The summer scene in the Hamptons may seem exclusive and mysterious, hidden behind the hedges of private homes. However, thanks to data shared by DoorDash, we can now get a glimpse into what the leisure class is ordering for delivery. According to Alanna Shipley, a Consumer Insights Expert at DoorDash, there has been a noticeable increase in orders for rosé. This may not come as a surprise, given the affluent clientele in the area, but what is truly intriguing is the rise in orders for laptop accessories such as wireless mouse and keyboards. This suggests that Hampton-goers are not only indulging in luxuries like rosé, but also taking advantage of flexible work arrangements to engage in what Shipley refers to as “quiet vacationing”.
The data from DoorDash also reveals a shift towards a work hard, relax hard mentality among Hamptons vacationers. In addition to the rise in orders for laptop accessories, there has been an increase in deliveries of beauty staples like eyeliner, concealer, brow gel, and self-tanning products. This trend is evident both on weekdays and weekends, indicating that people are maintaining their grooming routines even while on vacation. Furthermore, DoorDash offers a pre-paid package pickup service, making it convenient for online shoppers to avoid the hassle of driving to town for returns.
Another noticeable trend in the data is the surge in alcohol purchases through DoorDash. There has been a 290% increase in orders across beer, hard seltzer, wine, and spirits. Vodka and tequila are the top picks among spirits, with a 340% rise in orders. Wine orders have also seen a 260% increase, with Rosé being the most popular choice, followed by Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Despite the lack of major fast-food chains in the Hamptons, late-night munchies are still a common craving among summer residents. DoorDash has reported a 118% spike in late-night orders between 9pm-4am, with fries, nuggets, and chicken sandwiches being some of the most ordered items.
Even when New Yorkers make the trek east to the Hamptons, their love for classic breakfast staples remains unchanged. Data from DoorDash shows that the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich, a beloved breakfast item in New York City, is also the top choice for Hampton’s residents. Following closely behind are hash browns and a bagel with cream cheese. While Brekkie Bagels in East Hampton is available for delivery on DoorDash, the iconic local bagel spot, The Original Goldberg’s Famous Bagels, still retains its allure with the traditional in-person experience of waiting in line.
