Modernizing the Fort Wilderness Cabins at Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World is known for its magical experiences, and one of the best accommodations for outdoor enthusiasts is the Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. Nestled within a 750-acre forest, this resort offers a wide range of activities such as horseback riding, archery, fishing, and campfire sing-alongs. The most unique aspect of Fort Wilderness is its 350 cabins which guests can stay in, bringing a mix of comfort and rustic charm to their Disney vacation.

For the first time in 25 years, Disney is revamping the cabin experience at Fort Wilderness by transitioning from the traditional pioneer-style log cabins to more contemporary shed-style structures. The new cabins feature a colorful palette of blue, tan, green, or orange-red, making them visually appealing and standing out in the forest landscape. With modern patio furniture and upgraded amenities, these cabins cater to the needs of 21st-century nature lovers.

The new cabins at Fort Wilderness offer a spacious and well-lit interior, thanks to clerestory windows on three sides and floor-to-ceiling windows in the central living and dining area. With a kitchen, dining table, lounge area, sofa, wall-mounted TV, bathroom, bedroom, and bunk beds, these 504-square-foot cabins can accommodate a family of four or five comfortably. The upgraded kitchen includes a full stove with an oven, a full-size refrigerator, a built-in microwave, a dishwasher, and a versatile coffeemaker.

The interior decor of the new cabins reflects a wilderness theme with subtle nods to Disney’s history. From Chip ‘n’ Dale murals to hidden references like the Nov. 19 calendar page celebrating Fort Wilderness’ opening date, the design elements add a touch of whimsy to the modern condo-style cabins. Practical features like a second vanity sink, a tuck-away booster step for kids, and a storage grill outside make these cabins both functional and charming.

Situated near the resort entrance in seven loops, the cabins offer privacy and easy access to facilities like the stables, bus depot, main dining hall, tavern, convenience store, swimming pool, and laundry room. While they may be a bit distant from the beach area and boat shuttles to the Magic Kingdom, the cabins provide a tranquil setting with the occasional sound of Magic Kingdom boat horns in the background. Guests can enjoy a variety of activities such as dog park visits, carriage rides, fishing excursions, and the popular “Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue” dinner and show.

The modernization of Fort Wilderness cabins at Walt Disney World brings a fresh and exciting experience to guests looking for a balance between comfort and adventure. With updated amenities, stylish decor, and convenient location, these cabins offer a unique way to immerse yourself in the magic of Disney while enjoying the great outdoors.
