Enhancing Authenticity at The Rockley Hotel in Barbados

Patricia Affonso Dass, the CEO of Ocean Hotels Barbados group, recognized the need for a rebrand at The Rockley Hotel in Barbados. The 49-room boutique hotel, previously known for its Miami Beach vibe, underwent a significant redesign to enhance its native authenticity. The decision to showcase local Bajan artists in the lobby and incorporate Bajan symbols such as sheep, chickens, and dominoes in the mural was a thoughtful approach to connecting guests to the destination.

The Rockley Hotel offers two room options: junior suites with kitchenettes and 700-square-foot one-bedroom suites with full kitchens and separate living areas. The recent renovation also introduced an outdoor covered bar area with a “trendy beach vibe” for daily and nightly entertainment. The reception, communal spaces, and pool deck were also renovated to create a more immersive and engaging experience for guests.

The hotel’s restaurant serves breakfast and all-day menu items, with plans to introduce a dinner service later this year. In an effort to provide guests with a more enriching culinary experience, The Rockley has launched a Dine and Sign program that allows guests to visit partner restaurants off-site and charge their meals and drinks back to their rooms. This initiative not only promotes local dining establishments but also encourages guests to explore beyond the confines of the hotel.

Patricia Affonso Dass emphasizes the importance of experiencing a destination through its local cuisine and culture. Despite the all-inclusive nature of many resorts, The Rockley encourages guests to venture out and explore the vibrant neighborhood near the hotel, known for its nightlife and dining options. The introduction of discounted meal passes for sister hotels further incentivizes guests to immerse themselves in the local community.

To raise awareness about the rebranded resort and its sister properties, Ocean Hotels Barbados launched a Facebook group page for travel advisors. This platform not only provides valuable resort information but also offers social media content that advisors can share with their own audiences. Additionally, the hotel rewards advisors with 12% commission and award points for bookings made through the OceanHotelsRewards website.

The transformation of The Rockley Hotel in Barbados symbolizes a shift towards authenticity and cultural immersion in the hospitality industry. By showcasing local art, incorporating Bajan symbols, and promoting off-site dining experiences, the hotel is setting a new standard for connecting guests to the destination. As travelers seek more meaningful and enriching experiences, initiatives like the Dine and Sign program and partnerships with sister hotels demonstrate a commitment to embracing the unique charm of Barbados. With a focus on authenticity and community engagement, The Rockley Hotel is poised to offer guests a truly unforgettable stay in this tropical paradise.
