Exploring the Beauty of Anguilla’s Meads Bay

My recent visit to Meads Bay in Anguilla brought back memories of my first stay over 20 years ago. I was initially hesitant about returning, but the breathtaking shorelines and family-friendly surf quickly put me at ease. Despite some additional development over the years, Meads Bay maintains its charm with long stretches of uncrowded beaches surrounded by coastal grasses and low shrubs. The development that has taken place is tasteful, offering a variety of dining options from upscale to barefoot beach cuisine.

During my stay, I had the pleasure of experiencing the luxurious Four Seasons Resort and Residences Anguilla, located at the western end of Meads Bay. This former Viceroy property was converted in 2016 and features a range of accommodations, including rooms, suites, penthouses, villas, and townhouses. The detached residences are known to attract sports superstars and come with dedicated residence assistants who provide exceptional service with a touch of island informality. The resort boasts excellent dining options, including an outstanding breakfast buffet and a formal dining room called Salt.

I also had the opportunity to stay at Tranquility Beach, a smaller property located in the center of Meads Bay. Despite its size, Tranquility Beach offers five-star service with beach butlers, hot tub-equipped accommodations, and a small gym. While the property does not have a restaurant, there are plenty of dining options within walking distance. Guests can also arrange for a meal prepared by local celebrity chef Kylon Hull, who served a delicious brunch during my stay.

Malliouhana, Anguilla’s original five-star resort, is situated at the eastern end of Meads Bay and exudes a sense of history and elegance. Built in 1984, the resort celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and showcases Caribbean roots and colonial period decor. In contrast to the contemporary interiors of other properties in the area, Malliouhana offers a unique and authentic experience. The nearby Quintessence on Long Bay Beach provides an excellent dining option if you’re looking to explore beyond Meads Bay.

While there are numerous attention-grabbing five-star properties in Anguilla, the true magic of Meads Bay lies in the sense of community that transcends individual hotels and restaurants. Cap Juluca and the Aurora Anguilla Resort and Golf Club offer luxurious accommodations on the island’s southwest end, but the overall experience of a Meads Bay vacation is what truly sets it apart. The community atmosphere along the coastline creates a cohesive and welcoming environment for travelers seeking the ultimate beach getaway.

Anguilla’s Meads Bay continues to impress with its stunning beaches, luxurious accommodations, and diverse dining options. Whether you’re looking for a relaxed beach retreat or a high-end resort experience, Meads Bay has something for every traveler. Explore the beauty of this Caribbean gem and discover why it remains a top destination for luxury beach vacations.
