New Dim Sum Destination Opens in Nomad Tea Parlor

Nomad Tea Parlor, located at 244 5th Avenue in Manhattan, is set to open its doors on Friday, June 7, offering a unique blend of modern Cantonese cuisine infused with a touch of nostalgic charm. Owners Jae Yang and Mandy Zhang aim to celebrate Chinese American food by drawing inspiration from American Chinatown and Hong Kong dining. Their goal is to showcase Cantonese food and dim sum in a contemporary light while honoring the rich history of Chinese American cuisine.

An Immersive Dining Experience

Executive Chef Wu hailing from Guangzhou, China, brings his expertise to the kitchen, while Mandy Zhang contributes her industry experience to curate a menu featuring classic Chinese American dishes with a twist. Menu highlights include Coca Cola chicken wings, plum sauce roast duck, lobster spring rolls, Xo rice rolls, and soft shell crab. Guests can complement their meal with a selection of teas or creative cocktails like rum-spiked Hong Kong milk tea or lychee martinis.

Yang emphasizes the appeal of opening Nomad Tea Parlor in a neighborhood like Nomad, which bridges uptown and downtown energy in a casual yet vibrant setting. With no other Chinese restaurants on Fifth Avenue or in the vicinity, Nomad Tea Parlor brings a fresh perspective to the area’s dining scene. The restaurant’s interior is designed to transport diners to the bustling streets of Hong Kong, with an open kitchen where dumplings are expertly crafted and a bar that can accommodate 14 guests.

Nomad Tea Parlor’s ambiance is carefully curated to evoke a sense of nostalgia and joy in diners, capturing the essence of Chinese American food culture. With vintage lightbox street signs and striped awnings adorning the space, visitors are immersed in a theatrical dining experience that pays homage to the roots of the cuisine. The bi-level layout provides ample seating for over 100 patrons, ensuring a welcoming and lively atmosphere for all guests.

Nomad Tea Parlor promises to be a unique addition to Manhattan’s dining scene, offering a modern take on traditional Cantonese cuisine in a vibrant and nostalgic setting. By blending classic Chinese American dishes with contemporary flair, Nomad Tea Parlor aims to celebrate the rich culinary heritage of the Chinese American community while providing diners with an immersive and memorable dining experience.
