The Safest and Riskiest Cities for Tourists in 2021

Singapore has been named the world’s safest city for tourists in 2021, according to a recent study by Forbes Advisor. The study evaluated various factors such as crime rates, healthcare quality, natural disaster risks, and digital security. Singapore emerged as the top performer, scoring a perfect 0 points on the safety scale. The city-state excelled in all categories, boasting the lowest natural disaster risk, the second-lowest health and infrastructure risks, and the second-lowest digital security risk.

Following closely behind Singapore, Tokyo and Toronto were ranked as the next safest cities for travelers. Tokyo stood out for having the lowest health security risk, indicating the superior quality of healthcare services available in the city. Toronto, on the other hand, demonstrated strong infrastructure security, positioning itself as a safe and stable destination for tourists. Japan and Australia were the only countries with two cities each in the top 10 list of safest cities.

On the other end of the spectrum, Caracas, Venezuela, was identified as the riskiest city for tourists. With a score of 100 points, Caracas faced the highest health security risk due to the inadequate healthcare services and infrastructure in the city. The U.S. State Department issued a “Level 4: Do Not Travel” advisory for Venezuela, citing concerns about crime, civil unrest, and kidnapping. Pakistan’s Karachi was ranked as the second riskiest city in the study, primarily due to the high personal security risk and the fourth highest infrastructure security risk.

The safety of a city plays a crucial role in attracting and retaining tourists. The recent study by Forbes Advisor sheds light on the safest and riskiest cities for travelers in 2021. While Singapore emerged as the epitome of safety, cities like Caracas and Karachi serve as a stark reminder of the challenges and risks faced by tourists in certain destinations. As travelers plan their next adventure, prioritizing safety and security should be a top consideration to ensure a memorable and hassle-free experience.
