A New Dawn for Luxury: Transforming the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Resort

The Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Rainforest Beach & Golf Resort, beautifully situated on Puerto Rico’s northeastern coast, is embarking on an ambitious $50 million renovation plan aimed at redefining luxury and comfort. This extensive redevelopment promises to not only refresh the visual appeal of the resort but also to elevate the guest experience, providing a sophisticated oasis just a stone’s throw from the breathtaking El Yunque National Forest.

At the heart of this transformation is a complete overhaul of all 400 guest rooms. The new designs will embrace natural materials like wood and rattan, promoting a harmonious connection to the surrounding rainforest. An updated color palette featuring oceanic blues and earthy hues will enhance the serene atmosphere of each room. The renovation schedule indicates that half of the rooms will be ready for guest occupancy by December, with the remaining renovations expected to wrap up in mid-2025. Bathrooms will also be reimagined with luxurious high-end tiles and brass fixtures, further enhancing the sense of opulence.

Common Areas Reimagined

The renovation is not limited to the guest rooms. The resort plans to introduce a redesigned lobby and porte cochere, creating an inviting entrance that sets the tone for the luxurious experience awaiting guests. Additionally, the introduction of two new zero-entry pools is anticipated to be a significant draw for both families and adults seeking relaxation. These pools will be specifically designated for adults, adding a touch of exclusivity.

Culinary Enhancements and Dining Innovations

Culinary offerings at the resort will also receive a fresh makeover. Currently, Marbella serves breakfast only, but it will soon transition into a high-end Spanish restaurant that promises to tantalize the taste buds. The addition of a shared outdoor dining area will bridge the gap between casual and fine dining, showcasing local cuisine and entertainment. Meanwhile, the existing Roots Coastal Kitchen will pivot to a healthier “grab-and-go” format, reflecting a growing trend toward wellness. These dining innovations aim to cater to diverse culinary preferences while enriching the overall guest experience.

Entertainment and Unique Experiences

Not limited to dining and accommodations, the resort’s entertainment options will also undergo significant changes. The casino will be reimagined to evoke the charm of the 1950s and ’60s Boricua/Cuban era, complete with a new lounge featuring cabaret-style entertainment. An observation deck equipped with telescopes will offer guests a unique way to connect with the natural beauty of El Yunque, enhancing the resort’s educational initiatives.

Engaging Guests with the Xplorers Club

In a bid to connect guests with both the culture and ecology of Puerto Rico, the resort plans to introduce the Xplorers Club. This innovative program will offer a range of educational activities suitable for all ages, from kayaking on the Mameyes River to guided explorations of local ecosystems and stargazing. Such initiatives not only enrich the guest experience but also foster a deeper appreciation for the island’s natural beauty.

Andro Nodarse-Leon, CEO of LionGrove, believes that this shift towards luxury will attract a more upscale clientele, positioning the resort competitively within the evolving hospitality market. Following its last major renovation post-Hurricane Maria in 2017, the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Rainforest Beach & Golf Resort is determined to redefine the standards of luxury in the Caribbean, paving the way for a new era of hospitality and guest satisfaction.
