Deer Valley Resort in Park City is set to undergo a massive expansion that will see the resort more than double in size. The good news for ski enthusiasts is that the first phase of this expansion will open earlier than planned. Three new lifts will be operational during the upcoming ski season, providing access to 20 brand new ski runs covering 316 skiable acres of terrain. Additionally, 500 parking spaces will become available to accommodate the influx of visitors to the expanded resort.
Among the new additions will be the Keetley Express, Deer Valley’s first six-person chairlift with a bubble. This lift is scheduled to begin operation in December, offering direct access from Deer Valley East Village to the existing resort area. The other two chairlifts, Hoodoo Express and Aurora, will serve as access points to new beginner-level ski trails and will also provide return access to Deer Valley East Village. Once fully completed, the East Village expansion will boast an impressive 3,700 skiable acres, making Deer Valley the fourth largest ski resort in the U.S.
The Deer Valley expansion project doesn’t stop there. The grand plan includes a total of 16 chairlifts and a 10-passenger gondola to provide even more skiing opportunities for visitors. Additionally, there are plans to build 800 hotel rooms, 1,700 residential units, and 250,000 square feet of commercial space in the East Village area. This ambitious project is part of a larger $300 million investment program by Alterra Mountain Company, the owner of Deer Valley Resort, which aims to revitalize and enhance its 16 North American ski areas.
In addition to the Deer Valley expansion, other ski resorts in Alterra Mountain Company’s portfolio will also see significant improvements. Crystal Mountain in Washington State is set to unveil its new Mountain Commons Lodge, offering upgraded skier services and dining options. Mammoth Mountain in California will see upgrades to its lift system, including the installation of a high-speed, six-person lift to increase capacity by 25%. Big Bear Mountain Resort in California, as well as Sugarbush and Stratton in Vermont, will also benefit from new or upgraded lifts thanks to this massive investment program.
The early opening of the Deer Valley expansion marks an exciting chapter for ski enthusiasts in Park City and beyond. With new chairlifts, ski trails, and a host of other amenities in the works, Deer Valley Resort is poised to become a premier destination for winter sports lovers looking for the ultimate skiing experience.
