Exploring Indigenous Tourism in Canada: A New Learning Opportunity

Signature Travel Network is set to become the exclusive platform for the Indigenous Tourism Education Modules, a collaborative effort between the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada and Destination Canada. This initiative aims to provide a unique resource for Indigenous tourism in Canada, offering travel advisors the opportunity to delve deeper into Indigenous communities and experiences.

Indigenous tourism plays a vital role in showcasing the rich cultural heritage and traditions of Indigenous communities in Canada. By highlighting Indigenous-owned products and experiences, travel advisors can help support these communities while offering travelers a more authentic and meaningful travel experience.

The Indigenous Tourism Education Modules consist of three parts: a comprehensive overview of Indigenous communities and their impact on tourism in Canada, an introduction to ITAC’s accreditation program “The Original Original,” and a closer look at Indigenous experiences near cruise ports in Canada. These modules are designed to educate travel trade professionals on the importance of Indigenous tourism and the challenges faced by Indigenous peoples.

ITAC emphasizes the importance of travel advisors taking an active role in learning about Indigenous peoples in Canada and the issues they face. By participating in these modules, travel advisors can gain valuable insights that will enable them to create more inclusive and culturally sensitive itineraries for their clients.

The Indigenous Tourism Education Modules will be available exclusively to Signature members at the end of September. This exclusive access will allow Signature members to be at the forefront of promoting Indigenous tourism in Canada and incorporating Indigenous-owned products into their offerings. The modules will eventually be made available to the wider public on ITAC’s website in January.

Signature’s focus on promoting Indigenous tourism is a reflection of the growing interest in sustainable and cultural travel experiences. By partnering with ITAC and Destination Canada to create these educational resources, Signature is demonstrating its commitment to supporting Indigenous communities and promoting cultural exchange through travel.

The Indigenous Tourism Education Modules offer a valuable opportunity for travel advisors to expand their knowledge and understanding of Indigenous tourism in Canada. By engaging with these modules, travel advisors can play a crucial role in promoting cultural diversity, supporting Indigenous communities, and offering travelers unique and authentic experiences.
