The Evolution of Orient Express Hotels in Luxury Hospitality Industry

Accor, a leading player in the hospitality industry, is making significant strides towards the launch of its first Orient Express hotel. The Orient Express La Minerva in Rome is set to open its doors to guests later this year, marking a new chapter in luxury hospitality.

The decision to revive Orient Express hotels was made back in 2017 when Accor acquired a 50% stake in the brand from the French national rail company SNCF Group. In a bid to accelerate the brand’s development, Accor has partnered with luxury giant LVMH. This strategic collaboration aims to not only expand the Orient Express brand in hotels but also in trains, cruises, and other luxury offerings.

The unveiling of Orient Express La Minerva in Rome is just the beginning of Accor’s ambitious expansion plans. Following this debut, Accor plans to introduce Orient Express Palazzo Donà Giovannelli in Venice and Orient Express Diriyah Gate in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia by 2025. The company is leaving no stone unturned in its quest to establish Orient Express as a prominent player in the luxury hospitality sector.

In addition to the hotel segment, Accor is venturing into luxury train services with the launch of La Dolce Vita Orient Express next spring. This move is part of the company’s broader strategy to diversify its offerings and cater to the evolving preferences of luxury travelers. Moreover, the announcement of Orient Express Silenseas cruising ship, scheduled for a 2026 debut, further solidifies Accor’s commitment to expanding its footprint in the luxury travel market.

LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault expressed delight in partnering with Accor to rejuvenate the iconic Orient Express brand. With a shared vision to elevate the art of hospitality, the duo aims to position Orient Express at the pinnacle of luxury travel experiences. LVMH, known for its luxury hospitality group Belmond, brings a wealth of experience in managing premium hotels, restaurants, and exclusive train services to the table.

Belmond, previously known as Orient-Express Hotels Ltd., has a rich legacy in the luxury travel industry. The company’s portfolio includes the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train and five other high-end trains, reflecting its commitment to preserving the essence of luxury travel. The decision to rebrand as Belmond in 2014 marked a new chapter in the company’s journey, signaling its evolution as a leading player in the luxury hospitality space.

Accor’s collaboration with LVMH and the revival of Orient Express hotels underscore the company’s commitment to redefining luxury hospitality. With a strategic expansion plan, a focus on diversification, and a shared vision with LVMH, Accor is poised to carve a niche for itself in the competitive luxury travel market.
