The ‘Pastrogi’: A Fusion of Two Iconic Manhattan Restaurants

Two of Manhattan’s most iconic restaurants, each with a rich history spanning over 100 years, have come together to create a unique and innovative dish that showcases their most beloved menu items. Katz’s Deli and Veselka recently unveiled the ‘Pastrogi’, a Pastrami Pierogi that combines Katz’s famous pastrami with Veselka’s signature Ukrainian dumpling.

The collaborative dish was the result of weeks of testing and trials by both restaurants, culminating in a flavorful fusion item that pays homage to both establishments’ culinary traditions. The ‘Pastrogi’ was created in celebration of Veselka’s new location in Williamsburg, where customers can enjoy Eastern European comfort food at 646 Lorimer St.

Starting on June 5, the new Veselka restaurant will offer limited daily quantities of the ‘Pastrogi’ throughout the month. For those unable to visit the Brooklyn location, a limited number of the dish will also be available for order on Veselka’s website, allowing foodies nationwide to indulge in this unique culinary creation.

Bringing NYC Classics to Foodies Everywhere

Jake Dell, the owner of Katz’s Deli, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, stating: “We are thrilled to partner with Veselka to give the gift of NYC’s classic pastrami and pierogi to foodies nationwide.” The partnership between the two iconic restaurants not only highlights their shared culinary heritage but also allows them to share their unique flavors with a wider audience.

This collaboration marks the first time that Katz’s Deli and Veselka have joined forces since their respective openings in the late 19th and mid-20th centuries. Despite their long histories, both restaurants remain committed to honoring their culinary legacies while embracing the ever-evolving food culture of New York City.

For those outside of New York City, a package on Goldbelly offers a taste of both downtown landmarks. The New York Classics Package includes one dozen of Veselka’s classic potato pierogi, along with Katz’s hand-carved pastrami and all the traditional fixings. Priced at $160, the combo ships for free throughout the continental U.S., allowing customers to experience the flavors of these iconic restaurants from the comfort of their own homes.
